DMDirc has a graphical installer available for Windows users. Simply download the latest 'Windows installer' release from the downloads page, and run the file to begin installation.
Users of Windows Vista may see a “User Account Control” dialog when starting the installer. Simply click on the 'Allow' option to grant the installer permission to run. Users of older versions of Windows will not see this dialog.
DMDirc requires Java in order to run. If the installer detects that you do not have Java installed, it will offer to download and install it for you. The installation of DMDirc cannot continue unless Java is installed. If you already have a compatible version of Java installed, you will see the graphical installation wizard straight away.
Once the installer has download Java, it will launch a separate installer which will guide you through the installation of Java. Once Java has been installed, the DMDirc installer will resume and you will see the graphical installation wizard.
The graphical installation wizard will first give you a little bit of information about DMDirc. Click on the “Next »” button to proceed with the installation. The second page allows you to select the install location, and whether or not the installer should create shortcuts or register the irc:// protocol for DMDirc. Click on the “Next »” button once you've selected your preferred options.
You will then be asked to confirm your selected settings. If you see any problems, hit the “« Previous” button to go back and correct them. Otherwise click “Next »” to begin the actual installation.
The installer will display what it's doing as the installation proceeds. Once it's finished, you should see a line of text saying “Installation finished” at the bottom of the information area. Click the “Finish” button to exit the installer.
Once DMDirc is installed you may launch it (if you opted to create the relevant shortcuts) by double clicking on the desktop icon, selecting the start menu entry (normally found under ”[All] Programs”, then “DMDirc”), clicking on the DMDirc icon in the quick launch panel, or clicking on an irc:// URL such as this one: irc://irc.quakenet.org/DMDirc.
